Follow our self-guided course about all the aspects of managing a high-level international (ministerial) conference

The goal of this module is to help you manage such a high-level event. This module will help you to ensure a flawless execution of the protocol. Often there is a lot at stake and strengthening relationships is crucial. The visit shouldn’t be distracted by any logistical problems.

The module applies to all high-level conferences, not just the ministerial conferences. It provides insights and information for those in charge of organising the conference, but also for those in charge of managing a delegation attending such a conference.

This module has been developed by our team of top-level protocol experts and is based upon years of practical experience. Protocolbureau has managed the protocol at countless high-level mostly ministerial conferences; UN- and EU-conferences as well as other conferences organised by for example nations or NGO’s.

This module discusses the protocol at such a conference, not how to manage it in general. This is not a module about event management but about protocol management. High-level conferences are different from other conferences because of the protocol that applies; seating is often important but also greeting procedures, flag protocol, photo opportunities, gift giving etc.

In this module we will also look at the members of the delegation and the role of the head of the delegation, the highest representative of each delegation. Very often the embassy is involved; we will explain their role as well in this module.

This module will cover the following topics:

  • Before the start of the international high-level (ministerial) conference.
  • The protocol at the international high-level (ministerial) conferences.
  • The role of the protocol officer escorting a delegation; support by Liaison Officers.
